Police recently arrested two residents after connecting them to a beer theft at a Quik Stop Market.
Police alleged that Latoya S. Svenningsen, 29, and Alex Mendoza Jr. 22, took part in the theft from Quick Stop Market on San Juan Road.
According to the police announcement:
On March 16, two suspects were arrested just as they allegedly committed a commercial burglary.
At about 2 a.m., Officer Bill Hutchison was on patrol near the intersection of San Juan/Hollister Road and Miller Road. He observed an individual running from the Quick Stop Market located at that intersection. The man was carrying what appeared to be two cases of beer.
Officer Hutchison noticed the man run to a nearby truck that was waiting for him on Miller Road. Officer Hutchison positioned his vehicle behind the truck as it began moving. The truck came to a stop and the driver and the passenger quickly got out of the truck and began to walk away from the officer. He repeatedly called for them to stop and after initially not complying, they eventually stopped.
Officer Hutchison was speaking with the driver, Latoya Sherrice Svenningsen (29) and the passenger Alex Mendoza Jr. (22) when dispatch received a call of a just occurred beer theft from the Quick Stop Market. The clerk reported a man had just ran out of the store without paying for cases of beer.
The items taken from the store were recovered near the truck and Mendoza was identified as the person who took the items and ran out of the store without paying. Both suspects were transported to the San Benito County Jail and Alex Mendoza Jr. was booked on a charge of burglary and Latoya Svenningsen was booked as an accessory to the crime.
