Police arrested 11 suspected gang members Saturday night for allegedly robbing a man at knifepoint, police said.
About 9:15 p.m., Lisa Giles verbally lured the victim to an area off the 7400 block of Rogers Lane, whereupon her acquaintances attacked him, police said. The suspects stole undisclosed personal property before fleeing. The victim did not sustain any injuries, police said. Police could not say whether the victim belonged to a rival street gang or not.
“This was a robbery for the benefit of the gang,” said Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Jim Gillio of the attackers.
GPD’s Anti-Crime Team stopped a vehicle associated with the crime after receiving reports of the robbery. After arresting several occupants, police went to the home of a known parolee on Hadley Court. There police recovered undisclosed weapons and arrested several subjects identified as robbery participants, police said. Police could not say whether any drugs were also confiscated at the residence known to attract criminal activity.
Those arrested were Giles, Daniel Juarez, Felipe Ocampo, Thomas Haro, Louie Ortiz, Juan Amezcua, Robert Cavazos and four juveniles. Police are still looking for another suspect.
The arrested adults will appear in court today and Wednesday. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is expected to charge the suspects with armed robbery, conspiracy and participating in a crime for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a criminal street gang, police reported.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Anti-Crime Team investigators at (408) 846-0350. To remain anonymous, call (408) 846-0330.
