Drunken driving and evading police:
James Scott Kindred, 38, of the 700 block of Fifth Street in Hollister, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; driving under the influence, a misdemeanor; possession of an open container, a misdemeanor; and recklessly evading a peace officer, a felony; on a turnover from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office in the 400 block of Fourth Street at 1:20am Thursday, according to the CHP. Deputies originally noticed Kindred fail to yield as he merged onto San Felipe Road from southbound Highway 25, deputies said. Deputies then pulled Kindred over in the first block of San Felipe Road, deputies said. Deputies approached the vehicle and noticed approximately 12 to 18 open beer cans in the vehicle and a strong odor of alcohol on Kindred’s breath, deputies said. Deputies then called the CHP to take over the investigation, but as deputies and officers contacted each other, Kindred fled in his vehicle southbound on San Felipe Road, deputies said. He then turned westbound on Fourth Street, where he turned into the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office parking lot, deputies said. The pursuit ended and CHP officers took Kindred into custody, deputies said.
