Police Chief Jeff Miller is set to retire April 20, while the city manager plans to rotate the two captains in the position before opening it to applicants.

That announcement came out at Monday’s Hollister City Council meeting. Miller has been the city’s chief since his hiring in September 2003. He officially retired from the chief role at the end of 2010, but the city immediately rehired him under an interim chief title – with an $80,000 annual contract – and has renewed that contract until now.

The city will appoint each of the two captains – Carlos Reynoso and David Westrick – as acting chief for a period of time before opening the position as a permanent role.

Neither City Manager Clint Quilter nor finance official Robert Galvan could be reached immediately for more details.
