The police department and sheriff’s office have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with four Hollister home burglaries, according to an announcement.

Police received information Thursday that the wanted suspect, John M. Velasquez, was near Del Rio Apartments on Nash Road. He has been wanted for several months on suspicion of involvement in four burglaries and separate warrants for domestic violence, burglary and resisting arrest. He is listed as a transient and has fled from police in the past.

Police and deputies with the sheriff’s office, including the K-9 unit, surrounded the area and located him hiding in a laundry room of an apartment complex. He refused commands to surrender and tried to flee on foot. He was quickly detained by the dog and held for officers and deputies to take him into custody, according to a press statement.

Velasquez was treated at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for a bite wound and later booked into the San Benito County Jail. Velasquez’s recommended charges include four counts of burglary, four separate arrest warrants and resisting arrest. He is being held at the San Benito County Jail pending his next court appearance.
