A Hollister senior citizen went without food and water for two days after falling in her home – before a food delivery worker’s tip led police to her residence.

Police on Monday responded to the 1200 block of West Street while responding to a report from a Jovenes de Antano delivery worker calling for assistance upon noticing unopened items at the home where the door went unanswered, according to a statement from the Hollister Police Department.

After that delivery worker noticed food delivered Friday had not been opened and no one answered the door, that person called police for help. Officers Luis Toribio and Ray Celano responded.

According to the statement: “They walked around the home and knocked on all the windows and doors. Eventually, they found a way into the house. As they entered, they called out to the resident and they heard a faint call for help. The resident was located on the ground suffering from a fall. The woman told officers she had fallen on Saturday and had spent two days without food and water.”

Police called for assistance from Hollister fire and American Medical Response, which transported the women to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.

The statement notes that the police department “would like to thank the food delivery worker for his dedication and commitment to the health and safety of the people he and Jovenes De Antano serve every day.”

Police also encouraged other residents to report unusual situations that might require welfare checks from authorities.
