Hollister police have identified a suspect, 25-year-old Matthew P. Lujan of Hollister, in the stabbing that occurred at Whiskey Creek Saloon in the early-morning hours of March 12, according to police.
Police responded to a reported fight at about 12:30 a.m. There were encounters involving “several” people both outside and inside the bar at 201 Fifth St., leading to the stabbing in the back of Whiskey Creek near the pool tables, a spokesman said.
Officers did not locate anyone involved on the scene, but did later get dispatched to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital because the stabbing victim had gone there for treatment. The man was flown to another hospital for more attention.
Police have obtained a $500,000 warrant for the arrest of Lujan on the suspected charge of attempted murder.
He is described as Hispanic; 25 years old; 5 feet, eight inches tall; and 150 pounds; with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. He is possibly driving a gray 1984 Chevrolet El Camino with a license plate number of 2J94050, according to a statement from police.
