A 15-year-old Hollister girl reported that a man tried to lure her into his car while she had been walking home from school Wednesday, according to police.
Police responded to the area of San Benito Street and Nash Road after the incident and canvassed, but could not locate the suspect.
According to the Hollister Police Department, the San Benito High School student reported that at about 3:45 p.m. she was walking home after school northbound on San Benito Street, where she was approached by a white male adult driving by her.
The man told the girl to “come here” while driving slowly next to her. The girl quickly walked away, but the man continued to drive next to her and told her to get in his car. The girl continued walking away, and the suspect drove from the area. Once home, the victim notified police of the incident, according to a statement released today.
Police described the suspect as about 50 years old with graying hair and an unshaven face. His vehicle was described as being a dirty “older white car”.
Police also reported that about a half-hour after canvassing, the victim saw the suspect in the area of Sally and Hawkins streets. Officers could not locate him then, either, according to police.
Police reminded parents and guardians to discuss with their children the importance of fleeing strangers who attempt to get them into their cars. Such incidents should be reported immediately.
