Hollister – Police are searching for a convicted child molester who has failed to register as a sex offender for more than a year and is living somewhere in the Hollister area.

Anthony Mitchell Davis, 23, is San Benito County’s sole sex offender out of the 62 listed on the Megan’s Law Web site who is out of compliance, said sheriff’s Detective Tom Keylon.

While Davis’ last known address was in the 1400 block of Prune Street in Hollister, he has since moved from that location and last registered with the sheriff’s department in June, 2004 Keylon said.

“He hasn’t been there for awhile,” he said. “We know he’s living here somewhere, but we don’t know where, and that’s part of the problem.”

Davis was convicted of one charge of annoying or molesting a child, however Keylon did not know if the crime took place in San Benito County.

Keylon said detectives register between one to two sex offenders every week – either new residents moving into the county, offenders moving within the county, or offenders complying with California’s law that they simply update their information annually, within five days of their birthday.

Some sex offenders must update more often: Transients must update every 30 days, and sexually violent predators, every 90 days.

Failing to continually register as a sex offender is a felony, and can land an offender back in jail for up to four years, Keylon said.

To instill the importance of registering and keeping police files up to date, Keylon said the sheriff’s department plans to publicize the name and picture of any offender who insists on being uncooperative in an attempt to keep all of the county’s offenders in compliance with the law and the public safe.

Anyone with information concerning Anthony Davis’ whereabouts should contact the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department at (831) 636-4080.
