A possible fatality in an accident on Highway 156 near Lucy Brown Lane has shut down traffic at the outset of the heavy commute period.

The California Highway Patrol has reported on its traffic information website that the accident involved a big rig and a sedan at 2:48 p.m. Friday. A third vehicle also may have been involved, according to the CHP.

Medical responders have been sent to the area to investigate the incident near the intersection of Highway 156 and Lucy Brown Road, according to the CHP.

Eight CHP units have responded to the scene. The San Benito Fire Department also has responded to the scene, while tow trucks have been requested, too.

Authorities announced over the dispatch at 3:48 p.m. that traffic would be closed in both lanes for about an hour.
