Every time I think I’m done writing letters to the editor something else happens. Headlines such as “Sarsfield and Hill become defensive,” I’m sorry, I meant to say, “respond to critics.” After reading the article I have to say “Knucklehead, coward and follower” still apply.

Knucklehead: Because the dynamic-duo would rather investigate where fire-damaged furniture went to instead of a vicious, unsolved gang beating and three unsolved murders.

Coward: Because elected Sheriff Hill wouldn’t honestly address the alleged jail beatings other than to say it’s “not even on my radar screen.”

I wonder if it would be on his “radar screen” if he was the one handcuffed behind his back and beaten to a senseless, bloody, pulp.

Sheriff, the simple truth is if you did this you are a coward and a thug. For the record, I sign my name to all my opinions and have a very low one of you. I couldn’t help but notice in the article you didn’t deny doing the beatings. Instead, you said you’ve never kept anything “from the public,” when in fact you’re keeping it from us now. Tell us now elected Sheriff – no double-talk – did you or did you not beat a defenseless, handcuffed, prisoner?

Follower: Until the District Attorney finally appears in court and does his job, he will always be a follower. I still can’t tell which of you (Curtis or John) is the puppet and which one is the puppeteer.

Sarsfield was quoted as saying that his office “has the obligation to correct problems they find, whether they are current or many years past.” In the article Sarsfield didn’t even mention Hill and his staff’s potential Brady standard violations and what he was going to do about it. There’s that double standard along with a bunch of double-talk.

Sarsfield stated that he “has no qualms in responding to specific problems a citizen has about the way he’s organized his office, as long as it doesn’t concert his office’s current investigations.”

Well, Mr. Sarsfield, I am a citizen and I have a “specific” problem. In the Citizens Voice today (Friday’s edition), there is an allegation that you and a member of your staff (a county employee) have been at Starbucks every workday this week until 10 a.m., at which time you and your employee finally go to work. I checked and the work hours for the District Attorney’s office are 8 a.m to 5 p.m. As a tax paying businessman and a citizen of San Benito County, I am asking, is this true? If true, I want the name of this person and how long this has been going on. As an elected official you can do what you want within reason. Allowing taxpayers to be ripped off to the tune of at least two hours a day (10 hours a week/40 hours a month) is not permissible. A full accounting of the work hours missed should be made and the money taken from his or her paycheck and returned to the county coffers. A full public explanation should then be made to the Board (of Supervisors). If no explanation is forthcoming, I request that the Board order a full investigation.

Based on this article, you and Hill seem to think that you’re above the law and this is some kind of joke and we taxpayers should not speak our peace. The fact that you don’t appear in court and allow at last one of your employees to malinger, wasting our hard-earned tax dollars angers me. You and your staff have wasted thousands of tax dollars over the past eight months and you need to be held accountable. The cases of Santos, Orabuena and Solorio are examples of your lack of prosecutorial competence. Your double-talk is not going to work. I will promise you this: from this day forward, you are my “Flavor of the Week.” And every time you or Hill try to double-talk us taxpayers, I will be there to call you on it and hopefully the Free Lance will print it.

No more free rides boys.

Hollister
