Police arrested a 39-year-old Gilroy man on charges of forcible rape and child molestation Sunday night.
At 4:10 p.m. Sunday, police were told that a 16-year-old female had been raped on the 800 block of West Eighth Street. Police found the girl when they arrived but the suspect, Higinio Saavedra Perez, had fled in a 1995 maroon Chrysler Cirrus LX, police said. Perez had molested and raped the girl at knifepoint earlier that afternoon, police said. Police recovered the weapon at the crime scene.
Later that evening, Perez returned to his residence in the Chrysler and was arrested at gunpoint by Gilroy police.
