A Celebration of Life will be held at Old City Hall Restaurant, 7400 Monterey St., Gilroy, on February 28th between 1:00-4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Fisher House Foundation or Homes For Our Troops.
Dick entered into rest at age 67, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, CA after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Dick was born in Holton, KS but later moved to California and was raised in Concord. He graduated from Clayton Valley High School and shortly after enlisted in the US Navy.
After 12 years of active and reserve naval service, Dick became a Broadcast Engineer working various television stations before returning to the Bay Area. After 25 years in the business, he retired as Vice President of Engineering for NBC-Bay Area Channel 11. It was at KNTV where Dick met his wife, Christine, and the two were married in San Jose, lived in Gilroy and retired in Hollister.
His retirement allowed Dick to play golf, ride his Harley Fat Boy, and bowl. As an avid bowler, he was involved as Men’s Bowling Association Director and managed local tournaments.
Dick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Chris; two daughters, Angie Swank, Cari (Christopher) Swank Polena; step-daughter, Cindi Swank; 3 loving grandchildren, Merissa, Briana and Jayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Marie Swank and sister, Sandy Swank.
