Friends and family can pay their respects onĀ  Saturday October 1st from 10am-2pm at Habings Funeral Home in Gilroy. There will be a service following at 2:00 P.M. After the service there will be a celebration of life at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building in Gilroy from 3 P.M. – 7 P.M.

Richard H. Sanchez, 68 yrs. old of Gilroy, CA passed away peacefully on Saturday September 24th 2016 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital with his friends and family by his side. He was known by many as Richie, Uncle Richie or Coach Richie. Richie was born, raised and lived in Gilroy his entire life. Richie was a longtime employee of Gilroy Unified School District. He was a Coach of Gilroy Pop Warner Football thru all of the 80ā€™s and most of the 90ā€™s. In addition, he served various positions on the board of directors and as President of the league for many years. In 1984, Richie coached the first team from Gilroy Pop Warner Football to win a national championship. He coached out of love for the game and for the youth of Gilroy. He loved Motown music, the 49ers, the Warriors and the San Francisco Giants. He was well liked by his peers and loved by his family.

He is survived by his Sister Rita Melendez of Gilroy, Brother David Sanchez of Gilroy, and Sister Blanche Sanchez of Sacramento. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
