Hollister animal control officers have captured four roaming German shepherds suspected in the recent killing of several goats, sheep and a dog – and authorities cited a local resident after they had trailed one of the canines following an attack they witnessed while responding.

Officers responded Monday to a report of roaming German shepherds in the Union Heights Drive area of Hollister and discovered two of them attacking goats, according to a press release from the police department, which oversees animal control.

A family on Union Heights Drive also had complained Monday to the Free Lance about the roaming German shepherds and noted how they had worries for their young daughter’s safety with the dogs roaming so frequently as of late.

Animal control captured one of the dogs and followed another to Riverside Road, where they caught two more German shepherds, one with blood on its fur, according to the statement, which notes how the owner of those dogs was cited with the matter referred to the district attorney’s office.

Animal control captured a fourth German shepherd the following day after the stray had tried to attack a goat on Union Heights Drive. The owner of that dog has not been determined, according to police.

Animal control suspects six animals in total were killed and three others injured by the roaming dogs.

While out looking for these German shepherds, officers also encountered several other stray dogs in that area and have warned their owners to keep them contained, according to the statement.
