Robert K, Walter, Sr. peacefully passed away at his Florida home. He was 83 years old. He was predeceased by his beloved wives and the mothers of his seven children and step-children. Ann Landen Walter and Jacqueline Hoey Walter, his parent’s Joseph and Agnes Walter of Pittsburgh, PA, his brother William Walter and his wife as well as his grandson Jorge Price, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary and his very devoted children Joyce Walter Price (Jorge Sr.) of Northridge, CA, Denise Walter Alverez (George) of Laguna Niguel CA, Shari Walter Perryman (Paul) of~elbourne Beach, Florida, Robert K. Walter Jr. (Michelle) of San Diego, CA, John Bowen (Jeanne) of San Martin, CA, Michael Bowen (Ann) of Owego, NY and Kevin Bowen also of Owego, NY.
Robert had 12 very wonderful and accomplished grandchildren that he was so proud of and 2 nieces.
Robert served in the US Navy during the end of WWII and found his love for engineering, flying and sailing. He had owned his own plane as well as his ownglider imported from Germany not to mention his own 55 foot yacht he called “The Dreamaker”.
Robert, by trade, was an Aeronautical Systems Engineer who worked for IBM, Lockheed Martin as well as Milstar after comleting his Masters at Carnegie Tech in 1952. He was very instrumental in our present day NASA program and is still highly regarded by his fellow colleagues and friends as being one of the most accomplished and respected engineers in the country. Those who knew him, knew he loved his work but most of all he was the greatest Dad and family man in the world. He inspired his children and grandchildren to be independent and helped them to follow their dreams.
Robert was a true “Gentlemen and Scholar” who will be sorely missed by his family and many many friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, The Villages.
