Ruth Millicent Goldsmith died on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the age of 101. She passed peacefully at her residence at 7600 Isabella Way in Gilroy, CA.

Ruth was born on February 10, 1908 in Ontario, CA. She was one of eight children born to Arthur and Nettie Payne. She married Earl Glenn Goldsmith on August, 31, 1927. She and Earl raised their family in Southern California and moved to Gilroy in the 60’s to help start Goldsmith Seeds.

Ruth was an active member of her church. She belonged to the Wheeler Manor Guild, sang in her church choir, enjoyed arts & crafts and crocheting, and was an accomplished florist.

Her husband of 62 years, Earl Goldsmith, died in 1989. Randall Bruce Rickert, her grandson, died in 2007. As well as her son in law, David Rickert, who died earlier this year.

Survivors include her three children, Glenn Goldsmith and his wife, Jane, of Lawai, HI, Marjorie Ratliff and her husband, Robert, of Victoria, TX, Geraldine Rickert of Longview, WA; her sister, Marjorie Thomas of Oxnard, CA; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and twenty-two great-great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., Gilroy, with a reception following at Goldsmith Seeds. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to: The First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., Gilroy, CA 95020.
