Morgan Hill- Salvador (Sam/ Sal) Mateo Perino, son of the late Guiseppe and Rosalia Peraino, born December 19, 1928, in San Francisco, CA, passed away unexpectedly in San Jose, CA on October 12, 2012. The beloved husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn Perino; children, Elizabeth Williams and husband Norman of Carmel, Pamela Bautista and husband Gary of Phoenix, and Joseph Perino and wife Terri of Gilroy; and grandchildren, Amy Bautista and husband Zach Cleaver, Lisa Taylor and husband Nathaniel, Sarah Perino, Hilary Williams, Emily Perino, and Valerie Williams, as well as many treasured family and friends.
He was a proud craftsman and member of Carpenter’s Local 1280 beginning in 1948 and retired as a lifetime member in 1989, receiving his 60 year pin in 2008.
He was known for his expertise in the construction of fine custom homes and the refurbishing of buildings throughout the Santa Clara Valley. He enjoyed sharing his fine craftsmanship skills with family and everyone knew that if something needed fixing, “Just ask Papa.”
In his younger days he loved to hunt and fish with friends and family in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. For many years he enjoyed monthly dinners at the Colombo Italian Hall in Oakland with dear friends.
Family was always a priority for “Uncle Sam”. He raised his family in the countryside of Mountain View, alongside his own parent’s home on land that is now part of the “Google” complex.
He moved with his wife to Morgan Hill in 1989, where he enjoyed puttering in his garden, and spending time with his granddaughters.
Memorial services will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2012, with internment to follow at Santa Clara Mission (Catholic) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
