This is not a battle over San Benito County growth control. It is about common sense and good business for our residents and potential visitors.

The San Juan Oaks Golf Club is a sparkling jewel in every aspect and is proposing to increase its magnitude in a slow, financially sound and responsible way.

The current golf course, designed by PGA standout Fred Couples, is magnificent – surely one of the best in the state.

The country club, its restaurant and facilities match the golf course in beauty and stature. The view from the golf course and country club is breathtaking.

The folks who work there, under the outstanding direction of Scott Fuller, are uniformly friendly and helpful.

Overall, San Juan Oaks is a real plus for this county and its residents, especially being so close to Hollister.

Now Fuller and company investors want to expand what they have carefully built and crafted.

The proposed new golf courses and especially a resort hotel would be a huge attraction to the sorely needed state tourists and their big-time bucks.

The number of houses proposed might fluctuate, but a reasonable count built in stages like the rest of the project, especially spread around a golf course, would hardly hurt any vista or setting.

And don’t forget that some of the homes would be affordable, a current scarcity in this county.

Plus, the vast majority of the land would stay as open space with no real negative effect on the environment. Water issues especially have been responsibly covered.

More than 200 new jobs and hundreds of thousands of dollars in new tax revenues are an offer this county should not refuse.

Fuller has hit this expansion drive right at the flag stick. County planners should make sure it rolls right into the center of the cup.

It’s a winning proposition for San Benito County in every way.
