San Benito High School promoted one of its teachers to the district’s open assistant principal position.
Claire Grissom was selected to fill the assistant principal position, according to minutes from the March 15 board meeting, which were set for trustee approval during a gathering earlier this week.
“She has a very extensive resume,” John Perales, the district’s superintendent, told the Free Lance. “She has served as science teacher. She has served as an activities director. She has served as an FFA advisor. She comes to us with a wealth of knowledge.”
Grissom stood out from a group of 40 applicants for the position, he said.
The assistant principal position was vacated by Adrian Ramirez, after he became principal position following Todd Dearden’s resignation in the midst of an ongoing investigation in December.
Grissom will assume the new position July 1, as she is currently finishing the year as a science teacher at San Benito High School, explained Tricia Cooper, the administrative assistant to the superintendent, in a conversation with the Free Lance on Wednesday.
