San Benito High School District Superintendent John Perales has won a state award from the Future Farmers of America after winning a regional award.
Perales was selected as the FFA Star Administrator of the Year, he told the Free Lance this week.
The award program recognizes school administrators who provide outstanding service to their local FFA program, according to the award’s application form, which was posted online.
“I wasn’t expecting to win, to be honest with you,” Perales said. “It was really neat. We worked really hard and it’s just nice to receive those accolades and have somebody say, ‘Hey, you’re doing something special.’”
FFA students nominated Perales, who won the regional award in early April. He went through an interview process and was chosen by a panel from a group of six finalists, he explained.
