The California Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who injured a Hollister man in a high-speed accident late Thursday night.

Crash investigators are searching for the driver of a white 1993 Acura Integra who was driving wildly on Highway 156 at an estimated speed of 100 mph.

The unknown driver, who was reportedly darting in and out of traffic and passing other cars on the shoulder of the road, is responsible for causing a collision that shut down a section of Highway 156 just east of Union Road, the CHP said.

The 11:30 p.m. accident happened when the eastbound Integra passed the Union Road intersection at about 100 mph and darted into the slower lane striking the rear of a 1989 Lincoln Continental driven by Robert Garcia, 53, of Hollister, the CHP said.

The force of the collision sent the Continental spinning out of control and off the highway onto a dirt embankment.

Garcia, was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released, the CHP said.

The collision also sent the Integra spinning out of control before it overturned twice crossing the westbound lane of the highway coming to rest on its roof, next to the shoulder, the CHP said.

Witnesses at the scene thought the driver had been ejected from the Acura, touching off a search by sheriff’s deputies, CHP officers, and Hollister and County firefighters.

After searching for more than a half an hour, officers reportedly found clues, indicating the had driver fled on foot across a field of row crops.

Anyone with information about the identity or the whereabouts of the hit-and-run driver is asked to call the California Highway Patrol at: (866) 502-5058.
