Authorities are continuing to investigate the discovery of the skeletal remains of an adult male reported to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office last week near Hollister.
Deputies were dispatched to a section of Highway 156 a half mile east of Highway 25 to an agriculture field where the body was discovered last Wednesday. Deputies sent the remains to Santa Clara County to be tested. The remains appear to have been decomposing for at least 10 weeks, according to the sheriff’s office.
“We’re just waiting for the DNA stuff to come back,” said sheriff’s Capt. Tony Lamonica on Tuesday.
He said investigators did some searching last Friday with the search and rescue team. Those involved found some bones, but didn’t know for certain if they were human remains and sent them away for testing, Lamonica said.
The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death has not be determined. If anyone has any information, call the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office at (831) 636-5080 or the TIP-LINE at (831) 636-4084.
