HOLLISTER

Defense Attorney Greg LaForge made a brief appearance Tuesday in San Benito County Court on behalf of Hollister Police Sgt. James Egan, who had pleaded no contest to reckless driving and this week was assigned community service time.

Egan recently had charges of driving under the influence and hit-and-run dismissed in a plea deal with the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office after he had pleaded no contest to a count of dry reckless driving. He was assigned 40 hours of community service and instructed to provide proof that he had enrolled in the county work service program.

LaForge provided proof that Egan had enrolled in the program and was told by the judge that the sergeant would need to provide proof that he had completed his community service by Feb. 10. Egan was not in court Tuesday.
