The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the
identify of the victim in the Sept. 2 crash on Highway 101.
Services are scheduled Saturday for Dan A. Bliznik, the Watsonville man killed in an accident Sept. 2 on Highway 101.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identify of the victim in the crash as Bliznik. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford Ord Chapel in Salinas.

Bliznik, 62, of Watsonville was killed in the solo accident around 1 a.m. Sept. 2 on Highway 101 near Betabel Road, where he lost control of his sport utility vehicle, rolled over and hit a tree.

The 2010 Ford Escape was the only vehicle involved, and the man was the only person inside.

Bliznik was southbound on Highway 101 when he tried to turn right and lost control of his vehicle. The SUV left the highway and drove onto a frontage road where it flipped onto its roof and hit the tree, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man was wearing a seatbelt, CHP spokesman Jaime Rios said.

Workers at a train station called in the incident to the CHP at around 12:53 a.m., but when officers arrived the driver was pronounced dead due to blunt force trauma, Rios said. Just six days earlier, a similar fatal accident occurred in the same area when a San Leandro man driving a tractor-trailer lost control and crashed into a guardrail.
