The YMCA of San Benito County will be starting the Sharks and Parks Youth Hockey League on Jan. 31 through the NHL Street Program, with games expected to be held on the basketball courts at Veterans Memorial Park in Hollister.

The street hockey program, which will be open for boys and girls in grades 6 though 8, is to encourage a love for the game and companionship between players through the teaching of skills, development of positive attitudes about fair play, teamwork and reinforcement of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

A meet and greet will kick-off the season on Jan. 31, with the first game slated for Feb. 14. The season is scheduled to run through April 4.

Practice times and locations will be determined by the coach.

A skills assessment will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Veterans Memorial Park.

Registration fees are $90 from Dec. 1 through Jan. 24, while an individual program membership is $30 and a family program membership is $55.
