A San Jose police officer from Gilroy arrested Wednesday on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with two teen boys was released after posting bail Thursday morning, officials said.
Patrick D’Arrigo, 44, who lives at 883 Alder Street off Santa Teresa Boulevard and Thomas Road, was taken into custody without incident at the San Jose Police Department after a $100,000 warrant was issued for his arrest, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
It’s unknown who posted bail for D’Arrigo Thursday morning or the amount, but usually it’s the minimum 10 percent, or $10,000 in D’Arrigo’s case, said Sgt. Troy Smith of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.
He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail Wednesday night, Sgt. Smith said.
He posted bail Thursday morning and was released, according to Sgt. Smith.
Police said D’Arrigo faces charges of unlawful sexual contact with minors. D’Arrigo’s alleged victims are 15 and 17 years old, but police said there may be others who have not reported incidents to law enforcement.
“Given the nature of the crime, it is possible that there may be other victims who have not yet reported the incident(s) to police,” according to GPD press release.
The GPD is working with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office to complete an investigation into this case, GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said Wednesday evening.
“It’s a touchy subject, so we want to make sure we let people know but also work within the legal requirement,” he said.
Gallacinao said more information would be released in the next few days.
One woman who lives on Alder Street said she doesn’t know D’Arrigo personally but confirmed he did live in the neighborhood.
She said D’Arrigo occasionally had guests over at his house, but she didn’t consider them “parties.”
“I’m not aware of any parties. It was nothing bigger than barbecues or anything else the rest of us have,” she said.
When asked what she thought about allegations against her neighbor, she said, “I’m not going to rush to judgment.”
Another resident who answered the door said she hadn’t heard about D’Arrigo’s arrest, but said her son-in-law may have spoken to a television news reporter about the incident Wednesday night.
Crews from two TV news stations filmed on the quiet street off Thomas Road and knocked on doors Thursday morning in attempts to speak with residents.
In 2008, a criminal grand jury declined to indict D’Arrigo and SJPD Sgt. Will Manion following accusations they attempted to cover up a DUI incident that involved Sandra Woodall, an investigator with the District Attorney’s office.
D’Arrigo and Manion were fired for their roles in the investigation, but were reinstated after arbitration in December 2010.
