That smoke over an area near Hollister Hills is from a controlled burn. The burn Thursday was set to wrap up around 4 p.m., according to a Calfire spokesman, Jonathan Pangburn.
The planned burn was on about 1,600 acres near Cienega and Limekiln roads in San Benito County. Its smoke was visible Thursday throughout the region.
It was the third of three phases in the controlled burns to that area. The first one took place in September, Pangburn said.
“It’s going extremely well right now,” he said shortly after 3 p.m.
