After a long struggle with cancer, Steve Mitchell passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at the age of 63. We know he will be joining his loving daughter and angel, Melissa, in heaven where she has been waiting for him these past four months.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Mitchell, his son Matthew Mitchell, his son’s wife, Melissa Mitchell, and his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Maggie (who went with him to all his cancer treatments).

Steve Mitchell was born on June 22, 1953 in San Francisco. He met his wife, Jacqueline in high school at Salinas High. They recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.

Steve got his law degree at Monterey Peninsula College of Law and went on to work for companies such as Hitachi Data Systems, NetManage, and Hewlett-Packard. He was very proud to work in HP’s legal department surrounded by bright thinkers with prestigious degrees. He often joked that he felt like the pound puppy at the Westminster Dog Show. We all know: It is not where you obtain your degree, but what you do with it; a testament to that is the very successful career he had and the connections he made along the way.

Steve also had an eternal passion for cars; a hobby he and his son shared. Steve was an active member of the Porsche Club, often taking his Porsche 911 out on club trips with his wife and their friends. He also derived significant joy from acting as the editor of his Porsche Club’s award winning Prieta Post (a monthly magazine for the Porsche Club), a job he continued well through his cancer treatment.

Steve was an avid poker player. Every other Thursday night, he and some of his Porsche Club friends took turns hosting Poker Night. This long lived tradition lasted throughout the duration of his cancer treatment and was one of the things he looked forward to.

Steve provided inspiration to all of his friends, family and coworkers, by his incredible fight, and the abiding power of a positive attitude. He will be greatly missed by all.
