The celebration of his life will be held on January 22 at 2 PM at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.
Steven Burt Malech died Saturday December 10 surrounded by his family. Burt was born in San Jose and grew up in coyote on the family ranch founded by his great-grandparents. He attended Encinel school and Live Oak High School. He graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in fruit production. He also spent two years in the army stationed in Germany where he was on the national rifle team. He was a member of the Morgan Hill Fish and Game Club for over 50 years. He was an avid archer helping to develop the Mount Madonna Archery Range and was an officer in the State Archery Association. He was also on the board of the Loma Prieta Soil Conservation District. Burt was an outdoor person enjoying farming, hunting and fishing, metal detecting, and archery. In whatever trail life’s path took him he believed that he should leave the trail better than he found it. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dena Malech, son Robert Malech, sister Lucille Melot, brother Ray Malech and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Randy, parents Earl and Ruth Malech, brothers Alfred, Paul and Keith. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Heifer Project, Gilroy Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
