Steven P. Medley, former Gilroy resident, died in a single vehicle automobile accident October 5, 2006, while traveling to work in Yosemite National Park. He was 57 years old.

Steve was born in Palo Alto, CA in 1949 and took up permanent residence in Gilroy in 1952. He attended Gilroy schools and graduated from Gilroy High School in 1967.

Steve received a B.A. Degree in Film & Broadcast from Stanford University, a Master of Library Science from the University of Oregon, and a law degree from the J. D. King School of Law at the University of California at Davis. He worked as an attorney in private practice before becoming president of the Yosemite Association in 1985.

Prior to joining the Yosemite Association, Steve worked for the National Park Service as a Park Ranger, Naturalist, Research Librarian, and Museum Curator. Steve met his wife, Jane, in the park and worked there for 35 years.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Jane; sons, Charles, Joseph and Andrew; mother, Hermie M. Medley; sister, Robin L. Medley; niece, Megan R. Tresham, and nephew, Ethan P. Stocks.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter H. Medley, and father, Robert W. Medley.
