The Hollister woman accused of embezzling from a cattle dog rescue group over a five-year stretch faces her next court hearing later this month after a brief appearance two weeks ago.
Idalia R. Borges is scheduled for an arraignment on information at a 9 a.m. Dec. 19 at the San Benito County Courthouse, according to court records.
In August, the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office charged Borges on suspicion of stealing nearly $60,000 from the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue nonprofit organization. She was accused of five felony theft counts for each year – between 2007 and 2012 – in which police alleged separate charges that she stole from the organization.
The allegations came to light earlier this year, while the Hollister Police Department conducted an investigation and submitted a report to the district attorney. Deputy District Attorney Patrick Palacios is handling the case, while Harry Damkar is the defense attorney.
At a Nov. 19 hearing, Borges agreed to waive a preliminary hearing, where a judge normally would decide if there is enough evidence for a trial.
