After receiving an anonymous tip of cockfighting in a the 700
block of Union Road, deputies from the sheriff’s office have
arrested a 44-year-old Hollister man in connection with the
suspected crime.
After receiving an anonymous tip of cockfighting in a the 700 block of Union Road, deputies from the sheriff’s office have arrested a 44-year-old Hollister man in connection with the suspected crime.
Deputies arrested property owner Albino L. Jaimes in connection with the cockfighting. Jaimes was arrested on accusations of cruelty to animals, possession of birds for fighting and possession of a controlled substance, the sheriff’s office announced Wednesday in a statement.
Deputies were called to the home on Union Road around noon Saturday. When they arrived, deputies found several individuals engaging in cockfighting.
Also found were several live and dead roosters, cages, metal spurs, methamphetamine and money used to gamble on the roosters, authorities alleged.
When deputies arrived on scene, one man ran away from the property.
The Hollister Police Animal Control Bureau was called on scene for assistance with the roosters.
