Investigators with the California Department of Forestry are trying to determine what caused a fire in Aromas that killed two people and injured two others on Sunday.
The names and ages of the two adults who burned to death in the early morning blaze were not available from the San Benito County Coroner’s Office by press time this morning.
The fatal fire at 700 Carr Ave. was reported at about 3:30 a.m. when a trailer and an attached extension were engulfed by flames, CDF Battalion Chief Curt Itson said.
“The investigation will probably continue the next couple of days, but at this point, there does not seem to be any foul play involved,” Itson said.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted either today or Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death, Itson said.
Witnesses to the blaze said the two people killed in the fire appeared to have been trapped in a back room in the trailer home.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, it was reported the trailer home was engulfed by flames.
“The fire threatened to extend to some vegetation near the home, but firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading,” Itson said.
It took firefighters approximately 90 minutes to completely contain and extinguish the blaze.
There were two other adults who reportedly received burn injuries in the fire, however, their names and ages were not released by investigators on Sunday.
More information on the fire is expected to be released by investigators this afternoon.
