This is the scene of the fire.

Authorities have identified the fatal victim in the county’s Christmas Eve house fire as Michael John Jansky of Tres Pinos.

Jansky, 61, was killed and two more adults were hospitalized after an early-morning fire Monday at a home on Southside Road.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Lamonica could not initially release details on the victim’s identity, but did so Wednesday.

The Monday fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. A neighbor called 911 and reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the residence at 8525 Southside Road.

Occupants of the home met emergency responders as they arrived. They told those responders that one person was unaccounted for and possibly still in the residence, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Responders attempted rescue efforts, but Jansky died at the scene from apparent smoke inhalation. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine the official cause of death.

One other resident – Andrea Sommer, 47 – was flown to a San Jose hospital and was expected to be released this week.

Lamonica said investigators believe there were four or five adults and no children in the residence at the time of the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation.
