The accident on Highway 156 in San Benito County on Friday afternoon resulted in two deaths and another victim being airlifted to a Bay Area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two men were killed when the accident occurred involving two cars and a semi-truck on the highway near Lucy Brown Lane east of San Juan Bautista, sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Keylon said. The two passengers killed in the accident were in a car driven by the other victim who was flown to a Bay Area hospital.

The CHP was investigating the case and could not be reached immediately for additional details.

It was unclear whether victims’ family members had been notified so the identities were not yet available from the county coroner, Keylon said.

The California Highway Patrol noted on its traffic information website that the accident was reported 2:48 p.m. Friday. Traffic was closed off on the highway for about three hours.
