SAN JUAN BAUTISTA
After winning three straight matches against Gonzales, Soledad and Santa Catalina, the Anzar girls volleyball team has dropped two of its last three, including Mission Trail Athletic League matches against Pacific Grove and King City.
The loss to King City on Thursday night saw the visiting Mustangs win in three games (19-25, 14-25, 11-25), less than a month after the Hawks traveled to King City and forced a fifth set before losing.
Anzar is now 5-4 in the MTAL.
In recent weeks, the Hawks lost to Pacific Grove (25-13, 14-25, 23-25, 22-25), although did triumph over Santa Catalina in five games (25-19, 25-16, 17-25, 22-25, 15-10) on Oct. 12.
In that match, Alex Flores led Anzar with 21 assists, 12 kills, 14 digs, 4 aces and 1.5 blocks, while Sydnee Masuen added 16 assists and 13 digs. Carly Johnson and Jessica Frusetta tacked on 16 and 12 digs, respectively.
Anzar will return to the court on Friday when it will host Stevenson in San Juan Bautista. Match time is 6 p.m.
Earlier this season on Sept. 23, the Hawks defeated the Pirates in four sets.
