HOLLISTER
A 46-year-old Hollister woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being run over by a camper truck Wednesday night in a Third Street parking lot, police reported.
No one has been arrested, and detectives have not determined if it was a crime, said officer Rosie Betanio, spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.
The Hollister Police Department declined to identify the woman, who suffered a broken pelvis and internal bleeding.
As of 11 a.m. Thursday, the woman remained at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Betanio said.
Police officers were called at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Third and Sally streets, the department reported.
The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old Hollister man, has not been arrested, but the vehicle has been impounded, Betanio said.
“It’s for evidence until they do their investigation,” Betanio said.
Authorities believe the man and woman were in a relationship and living in the camper truck.
Officers reported the woman and man began arguing earlier in the evening, and that the woman went to a local bar and began drinking.
Betanio said the woman returned intoxicated and began another argument with the man. The man entered the truck and backed out of the parking space, police said.
The woman grabbed onto the mirror and attempted to hit the man, Betanio said.
As the man began to drive forward, the woman grabbed onto the mirror, but eventually let go, officers said.
“She fell under the vehicle and the vehicle ran over her,” Betanio said.
The man exited the vehicle and saw the woman lying on the ground, having been run over with the back tire of the truck, Betanio said.
