A Pacific Grove woman died Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was driving on Highway 152 rolled over and collided with a tree near Dinosaur Point.

The 26-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was driving a 2001 Toyota Echo when she came too close to a concrete barrier, Hollister-Gilroy California Highway Patrol spokesman Chris Armstrong said. Turning sharply to the right, the woman crossed onto the road’s shoulder and into a soft patch of dirt. The vehicle then rolled and collided with a tree, Armstrong said. The car’s roof hit the tree first, caving in and striking the driver in the head. She was killed instantly, Armstrong said. The woman was driving about 70 mph, he said.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, Armstrong said, and the CHP is still investigating the accident.

The woman’s name has not yet been released by the Santa Clara County Coroner, Armstrong said.
