The 20-year-old woman injured in an accident Wednesday morning on Highway 1 remains in a Bay Area hospital, but her precise condition is unclear at this point, according to authorities.

A woman whose listed residence is Hollister – though the California Highway Patrol noted she now lives in Las Lomas – sustained major injuries shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday on the coastal highway, north of Salinas Road, when her car crossed the yellow line and struck a big rig.

CHP Officer Robert Lehman confirmed her listed identity as Rose Delapaz and he said she has survived the accident and she remained in the hospital as of Thursday morning. A spokesperson with Regional Medical Center of San Jose, meanwhile, could not be reached immediately.

The investigation is continuing, though Lehman did note authorities have ruled out any involvement with drugs or alcohol in the accident.

Shortly after 9:15 a.m., authorities responded to the two-vehicle accident. Delapaz was in a 1999 Honda sedan northbound just south of Salinas Road and, for unknown reasons, crossed into southbound traffic and collided with a big rig, a 2007 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, according to the CHP.

“They’re just trying to figure out what caused her to cross over into the opposite lane of traffic,” Lehman said.

She was ejected from the car and sustained what the CHP called major injuries. The truck’s driver had no injuries, according to the CHP.
