Hollister – The Hollister Police Department arrested three women Thursday in connection with what authorities suspect was a fraud ring operating out of the San Jose area.

A 44-year-old Hollister woman, 45-year-old Folsom woman and a 24-year-old Hollister woman were arrested at 5:07pm Thursday during a traffic stop at the intersection of Fifth and Powell streets in Hollister, said officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.

The 44-year-old Hollister woman was booked on suspicion of making fictitious checks and conspiracy, both felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, police said.

The 45-year-old Folsom woman was booked on suspicion of transporting drugs, conspiracy, drug possession and making fictitious checks, all felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, police said.

The 24-year-old woman was booked on a felony warrant and suspicion of using an unauthorized identification, passing forged notes, conspiracy and drug possession, all felonies, and possession of hypodermic needles, a misdemeanor, police said.

Betanio said the officer recognized the women as suspects in a fraud case under investigation by the San Jose Police Department.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers found three bags containing a total of 7.79 grams of methamphetamine, Betanio said. Hypodermic needles were also found, she said.

Police collected other evidence, but the spokeswoman wouldn’t elaborate.

“They found evidence to substantiate the fraud,” Betanio said.
