The Hollister Police Department is looking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect wanted for stabbing a clerk at a Hollister 7-11 store.
Investigators have released a photograph of the suspect taken from surveillance cameras at the 24-hour convenience store on the night of the stabbing.
“We’re hoping someone will be able to recognize him from this photograph and give us a call,” Detective George Ramirez said.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s about 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a mustache and close-cut hair except for a round circular patch of hair on the back of his head.
He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt, blue jeans and white shoes, police said.
Police are looking for any information that can help them either identify or find the suspect wanted for the Nov. 5 stabbing of Gurpreet Singh, 24 at the 7-11 at San Benito and Hawkins streets at about 9:05 p.m.
Singh was stabbed once in the left leg and once in the upper right arm as he chased the suspect out of the store when he attempted to steal some beer, police said.
The suspect had reportedly committed a “beer skip,” running off with a 12-pack of beer without paying for it.
Singh chased the suspect out of the store on and confronted him at the corner of Hawkins and San Benito streets. A fight ensued and Singh was stabbed with an unknown weapon, police said.
Singh then ran to his residence behind the store where emergency personnel attended to his wounds. He was transported to Hazel Hawkins Hospital and later airlifted to a San Jose hospital when it was determined that at least one of the stab wounds had lacerated a major artery in his leg.
Paul Singh, manager of the 7-11 store, said thefts such as the one Nov. 5 occur on a regular basis, usually on Friday nights and weekends.
“This is the first time someone was stabbed with the knife,” Paul Singh said. “Normally we catch them and hand them over to the police.”
