For the second time in one week, the Balers scored early and blew out a Tri-County Athletic League opponent to stay in first place.
San Benito defeated Alvarez 12-0 Friday, scoring 10 runs in the first inning for their second-straight 5-inning win.
Jacob Tonascia hit a three-run home run in the first inning, after Ryan Jacob and Josh George led off the game with two hits. Overall, Tonascia went 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs to lift San Benito.
Seven Balers reached base, and eight Balers drove in at least one run. Michael Breen and Jacob each knocked in two runners for the Balers.
Craig Slibsager, Anthony Ocampo, Cody Freitas, Daniel Gonzales and George each drove in one run a piece.
Pitchers Tyler Pina, Conner Menez and Skyler Fuss combined for the three-hit shutout — the second straight for San Benito.
The Balers have now thrown four shutouts in the past five games, outscoring opponents 46-4. San Benito is 14-1 in the TCAL with three games left to play. Overall, the Balers are 18-4.
