Mrs. Machado was born in Madera, Calif., was educated in schools in Merced and move to San Benito County in 1945. She spent the last six months of her life in Union City so that she could be with her family.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Army World War II, serving in the Womens Air Corps, and was a sergeant in the 3017th Army Air Forces Base Unit. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the I.D.E.S. of Hollister, S.P.R.S.I. of Hollister, the AARP, and a member and past president of the Grandmothers Club of Hollister. She also assisted at and supported Sacred Heart Bingo since its inception.
She was recognized by Hazel Hawkins Hospital District for her 35 years of volunteer service at the Southside Convalescent Hospital. She retired from volunteering just before the opening of the new Mabie Skilled Nursing Center.
Mrs. Machado was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She loved to travel with her late husband in her earlier years, taking cruises as well as traveling with the Golden Years Travel Group. She also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph F. Machado, who died in September of 1974, and also by three brothers.
She is survived by her son Michael J. Machado and spouse Debbie of Union city, sisters Phyllis Larson of Lompoc and Marie Silveira of Merced, grandchildren Christy Machado of Tustin and Alan Machado of Fremont and great-grandson Nathan Machado of Tustin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 31 from noon to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Friends are invited to the recitation of the rosary Wednesday evening at 7 at the mortuary.
Family and friends will leave the mortuary chapel on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to go to Sacred Heart Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Donations are preferred to Hospice of Central Coast c/o of the mortuary chapel or to the donor’s favorite charity.
