Hank Garcia Sr. passed away Wednesday evening after a brief illness at the age of 72. Born in Hanford, CA having moved to Hollister at the age of 8. He attended San Juan Elementary , San Benito High and Gavilan College and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Member of the V.F.W. Post 9242 and the Apostolic Church.
Hank loved outdoor sports, and enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends, He loved to have family gatherings and barbeques. All holidays were hosted at his home. He loved to sit in the garage and listen to music and watch people go by. Hank coached Pop Warner football, Little League baseball, Babe Ruth and City League Softball. He umpired city league softball and refereed basketball.
He formerly worked for Ideal Cement Plant, president of the Teamsters Union and was a counselor for San Benito County Mental Health Dept. After retirement he worked for San Benito Tire, Hertz and Enterprise.
Hank is survived by his wife of 51 years, Valie Garcia, Children, Hank Garcia, Jr., Karen Garcia and the late John Bojorquez, Grandchildren, Jimmy and Anna Pelaiz, Keith and Mariza Pelaiz, Lindsey and Ryan Lopez, Amanda, Tiana and Alora Garcia, Lisa, Alisa and Javier Bojorquez, great grandchildren, Alyssa Macias, Jimmy Pelaiz IV, Mateo, Jasmine, Azalea and Jayda Pelaiz, Reina, Raymond, Kiara, Chloe and Isiah. Also survived by 7 sisters, Irene, Anna, Mary Ellen, Bina, Marylou, Kathy and Cookie and 5 brothers, Louie, Joe,
Bob, Hank and Ernie.and numerous nieces and Nephews.
Friends may visit at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home after 10 A.M. on Wednesday..
Funeral services will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M at the funeral home. Friends can meet at 12:15 P.M. Thursday afternoon at San Joaquin National Cemetary in Santa Nella for graveside services commencing promptly at 12:30 P. M.
Contributions are preferred to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
