An 18-year-old Hollister woman was killed in a solo car crash on Highway 129 on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at 8:25 a.m. on Highway 129 just east of the county line for San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. The woman, whose name is being withheld until the family is notified, was westbound in a 2006 Nissan Altima when the vehicle lost traction and traveled down a sloped, dirt embankment, according to a CHP statement.
The car rolled onto its right side before hitting two tree trunks. The driver was partially ejected, according to the CHP. She was pronounced dead at Saint Louise Regional Hospital at 10:17 a.m.
The CHP noted that driving under the influence is not expected to be a factor in the accident. It was cold and rainy at the time of the crash, according to the CHP.
