James P. Garske passed away in Hollister at the age of 85. He was born in Duluth, MN and moved to Hollister from Soquel in1989. He married his wife, Eileen, in 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola. He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Church, a past member of the Lions Club and the VFW. He presently was a member of SIRS and donated his time to Community Pantry and St. Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing and making people laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Garske of Hollister, his children and their spouses, Paul Garske and Judy Anderson of Felton, Sally Carpenter of Hollister, Joan and Louie Edwards of Mariposa, Andy Garske of Hollister and Mary and Trent Heth of Rancho Cordova, his brothers and sisters, Rose Barker of Soquel, Tom Garske of Soquel, John Garske of Pleasanton, Ruth Silviera of Canada, Virginia Miller of San Jose and Peter Garske of Washington. He is also survived by his11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Garske who died in 2005 and his brothers and sisters, Lawrence, Ben, Joe, Leona and Ann.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church, 1200 Fairview Rd, Hollister. Inurnment will follow the Mass at St. Benedict’s Columbarium. A reception will follow the services at the parish hall at St. Benedict’s Church.
