Julian Macias, of Gilroy, CA passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2009, surrounded by his family. Mr. Macias is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elvira Macias, sons Benito (Paula Alejo) Macias, Manuel (Ilana) Macias, Belem (Eduardo) Rodriquez, Reyna Pichardo, Beatriz and Petra Macias, 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Julian Macias first arrived in Morgan Hill in 1973 and soon thereafter moved to Gilroy where he made his home.

Julian was one of the members instrumental in establishing Village Avante for low income families in Morgan Hill in the early 70’s along with the late Father McIntee. In that era, he also was involved with Trabajadores Adelante in Gilroy and with Cesar Chavez’s movement.

His greatest joy was helping others and helping his family. He also loved getting in his car on the road. Family members recall the many times they would get in the car and drive to Southern California on a minute’s notice. Julian never said “No” to any trip or anybody.

To the very end, Julian Macias did it his way!

Graveside Services will be Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 10:00 A.M. at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
