Marie Barrios SSMN, a retired teacher and school principal, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was 92.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10am Monday in the Forth Worth.

Born Nov. 25, 1911, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Marie Barrios was very proud of her Hispanic culture. In her hometown, where she spent her early years, she was once crowned Queen of the Fiesta.

Marie Barrios became a Sister of Saint Mary in 1932. She spent her life teaching in the primary schools of the Sisters. Most of her teaching career was in Hollister and Porterville.

She was a frequent visitor and teacher at the area Indian reservations.

In Fort Worth, she taught at St. Ignatius Academy and Our Lady of Victory and became the first principal at St. Andrew Catholic School in 1954. Sister Marie retired to Our Lady of Victory Center in 1993. She will be remembered for her smile and her kindness and gentleness.

She is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; and friends and former pupils.
