Dear Editor,

I congratulate the Hollister City Council on its progressive and cost-saving thinking in Measure J.

The position of city clerk is ceremonial at present, with the deputy city clerk dealing with the day-to-day operations with the accreditation, expertise and professional skills required for the position.

The city of Hollister will save over $11,000 in salary and benefits per year, and the position will be appointed rather than elected.

Some people are under the incorrect impression that this position is connected with the county and John Hodges’ office.

It is not connected.

Measure J relates to the city of Hollister only. Vote yes on Measure J.

Ruth Erickson, Hollister
